Braid Millennium Line Transit Station

New Westminster, BC

Located in New Westminster and completed in 2002, Braid Station is one of three stations for the SkyTrain Millennium Line rapid transit expansion project. Design and construction administration for this project demanded sensitivity to local context, and were developed through a series of staff workshops and community meetings. The basic material palette of the station—heavy glulam timber, steel, and glass—reflects the industrial heritage of its location. The structural wood beams used for the roof, previously not a common material in this building typology, lends warmth and texture to the platform space.

This project was a collaboration with Stantec Architecture and earned a 2002 Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia Award.
