We are proud to announce that Principal and Partner Stefan Aepli has been awarded the AIBC 2017 CEO Award for Exceptional Volunteer Service. The award recognizes AIBC volunteers who dedicate countless hours to a variety of activities that strengthen the organization’s mandate. Stefan’s involvement with professional registration, qualifications, licensing and mentorship have contributed to the high standard of conduct that helps to elevate the profession of architecture.
Stefan mentors several AIBC Intern Architects and is a member of AIBC’s Registration Board. He acts as an assessor for Oral Reviews and Assessments for AIBC and the Canadian Architecture Certification Board (CACB). Stefan was instrumental in helping create the Broadly Experienced Foreign Architects (BEFA) program, that streamlines the process for foreign architects to immigrate and work in Canada.
He has been a guest critic and lecturer at the BCIT Architectural Science programme, is a past member of the Vancouver Urban Design Panel, served as chair on the Corporation of Delta’s Urban Design Panel and is an Advisor to the Board of the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce (BC and Alberta).
Stefan is a graduate of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich with a Master’s degree in Architecture. Prior to relocating to Vancouver in 1992, Stefan worked on several significant and progressive projects in Switzerland. In Vancouver, he has worked with a number of architectural practices, including Bing Thom Architects, prior to joining Francl Architecture in early 2005.
