Location
Richmond, BC
Client
Vancouver Airport Authority
Size
801 SQM
The Airside Operations Building provides facilities for vehicle wash bay, materials storage and vehicle fueling depot. The integrated building and apron design facilitate one-way drive-through for all vehicle bays to enhance safe operation, including dedicated traffic flow for emergency response.
Key attributes of this project include design to meet post-disaster operational requirements; unique design solutions to support strict response times for emergency events; site generated energy through solar PV / solar hot water panels and wind turbine; and reduction of potable water consumption by way of rainwater capture and greywater filtration for re-use.
Early-phase programming, apron reconfiguration, NAV Canada approvals, and site-generated energy strategies underpin a resilient, post-disaster facility. The utilities work was undertaken via a combination of shallow excavation and directional drilling across taxiways through an active airfield, coordinated in detail with YVR engineering for the best alignments.
