The new facility opens activities to views and continues a cohesive design with the adjacent ice rink. Portions of the building, such as the gymnasium and craft and pottery spaces are submerged below grade, improving energy performance by reducing the exposed envelope while also reducing the bulk of the building.
As a part of the LEED® Gold initiative, the hot water and heating for the new community centre was provided by the excess heat produced from the ice plant in the adjoining ice arena.
