The Childcare consists of four programs — Infants (12 spaces), Toddlers (12 spaces), full time Preschool 25 spaces) and part time Preschool (20 spaces), each with direct access to associated exterior play areas. The facility embraces its southern exposure with views to the river and direct connection to the adjacent city park. A playful canopy structure creates a sheltered outdoor play area encouraging year-round interaction with nature.
A major achievement of this project is its design to Passive House standards and its fully electrified building systems. This accomplishment was made possible through a wood-first structural approach, exceptional thermal performance, and an integrated waste and rainwater management strategy.
A comprehensive Life-cycle Assessment (LCA) will be conducted, and is currently on track to meet the substantial goal of reducing GHG emissions by 40%. This ambitious carbon reduction strategy primarily revolves around giving priority to wood as the primary structural material, minimizing the use of concrete and steel, and meticulously evaluating various cladding materials.
