Burn Fund Centre

The Burn Fund Centre was realized to support the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund Organization, and provide a safe, accessible and liveable space focused on recovery for burn and trauma survivors.
Location
Vancouver, BC
Client
BC Firefighter’s Burn Fund
Size
1,393 SQM
The 3-storey mixed-use building brings together living spaces, shared amenity spaces, and support offices, while responding to the vibrant neighbourhood of Mt. Pleasant. The overall architectural character is unified by connecting horizontal slab edges and vertical wall elements that visually engage program components within the building.
Natural materials and warm colours are added to the building through wood soffits and coloured vertical screening elements. The visual highlight of the building’s south facade is a 28 foot tall concrete photo mural, depicting a fire fighter attending to children.

The photograph, donated by Vancouver photographer Allan de la Plante, is imprinted on a concrete panel via an elaborate chemical process, a process of image transference seen for the first time in Vancouver.
